Avoid the Fool and Embrace Your Muse: Register for Monday’s Musings

Reedsy“‘Fool,’ said my muse to me, ‘look in thy heart, and write.’”

The famed words of poet Sir Philip Sidney seem easy enough to follow. But what if the muses aren’t on speaking terms with you and focusing on the heart is impossible because of the daily lists running through your head?

Work, bills, relationships, laundry, cleaning, cooking, kids, pets: life does not make it easy to carve out writing time or retreat to that quiet space where you can summon the muses and let the lines loose. For attendees who sign up for PubSense Summit’s Monday’s Musings at 39 Rue de Jean, sponsored by Where authors meet the best publishing professionals, the opportunity to Relax, Renew, Write! at America’s next great writing retreat may await!

The Monday’s Musings: Mixer with Faculty is limited to the first 75 attendees who sign up for this private event ($55). Guests will enjoy a complimentary signature cocktail created by Reedsy (the Final Draft), and heavy hors d’oeuvres, while mingling with the best in the publishing business at Charleston’s famed 39 Rue de Jean, just blocks from the host Francis Marion hotel.

One lucky attendee will also win a 2-night stay at Salamander Resort & Spa, including two breakfasts for two. Make certain to click on the chance to rouse the muses on your PubSense Summit schedule!

More about Salamander

Tucked in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the center of Virginia’s horse and wine country, Salamander Resort & Spa is just the place to awaken the muses and keep them talking. This equestrian estate sits on 340 acres and is the vision of philanthropist and Black Entertainment Television co-founder Sheila C. Johnson.

The 168 guestrooms offer spacious sitting areas, executive desks, and dining tables—residential necessities sure to make you feel at home without all the pesky chores and interruptions. But if you must connect, flat-panel televisions abound, even in the bathrooms, where you can enjoy the nightly news while soaking in the pedestal tub or washing away the day’s remains in the marble shower equipped with body jets.

Enjoy sights of the countryside from your private balcony. Room service is at your call to deliver cocktails, wine, or fantastic food from their stellar culinary team. In addition to in-room dining, the resort features Gold Cup Wine Bar, which serves small plates and an extraordinary wine list, and Harrimans restaurant where you can savor Virginia-inspired cuisine while taking in panoramic views of the horse stables and Bull Run mountains.

Have a break for afternoon tea and evening cocktails in the Living Room. Bring your lines to the library for some reading or look to the wide selection of titles for more inspiration. Sink into a chair by the fireplace or recharge with a game of billiards or chess. With so many places to get cozy, contemplate, and craft, this writing retreat will make you want to take up residence.

One feature that guarantees you’ll want to change your address to “in care of Salamander” is its luxurious 23,000-square-foot Spa and Wellness Center. Vitality whirlpools, aromatic steam rooms, an infinity pool with private poolside cabanas, full-fitness facility, sun-lit relaxation spaces, full-service salon, and innovative treatments are a few of the many reasons this spa offers a unique health and wellness experience sure to leave you ready to write on.

The quaint, 19th century village of Middleburg is a quick walk on the path through the countryside, so meander around boutique shops offering collectibles, books, clothing, coffee, and much more. Market Salamander provides gourmet picnic baskets for dining on the Resort grounds, at local equestrian events, and in nearby vineyards. Over fifty wineries within an hour’s drive—and many nearby—offer tours and tastings, so after a day of pushing the pen or pounding the keyboard, raise a glass of Virginia wine to you for awakening your muse at America’s next great writing retreat!
