Congratulations to the Pulpwood Queen, Kathy Murphy, whose story of her amazing Pulpwood Queens book club is going to be be a feature film! Kathy will be featured on our session, “Busting into Book Clubs” and trust us, if there’s one person who knows how (and then some!) it’s the Queen herself! Below, a few excerpts from the recent announcement of the DreamWorks production. To read the entire article, CLICK HERE!
DreamWorks has signed on to produce a movie about book-club founder Kathy L. Murphy of East Texas. The DreamWorks news made Murphy’s knees buckle.
…Her reputation as a book-club power began when, after being laid off as a publisher’s sales rep, she opened a beauty salon and book store in Jefferson, Texas, in 2000. A few months later she started her book club, which reports upward of 500 chapters, including a host of international readers.
…Los Angeles producer Taylor said in an interview that she decided on the project after coming across Murphy’s memoir, “The Pulpwood Queens’ Tiara-Wearing, Book-Sharing Guide to Life.”
…”I called her at her salon, where she was doing someone’s hair,” Taylor said. “I just loved her story — her perseverance, her resourcefulness and how she continued with a great attitude.”
…”I did not do this alone and am not an overnight sensation,” Murphy said. “This came about through years of struggle and hard work and the incredible friendship and help of my Pulpwood Queens Book Club members and our authors and the love of my daughters, my sister and family. We — note that I say we — have struck a film deal.”
